La Tania Baile Flamenco School
La Tania Baile Flamenco Company and school of traditional flamenco dance and music based in Oakland is directed by La Tania who has been performing flamenco for three decades. The mission of the company is to share the authentic beauty and power of the art of flamenco.
In 2007 after 25 years of touring, La Tania decided to settle in the Bay Area and begin a life dedicated to sharing her knowledge of the art of flamenco and initiated La Tania Baile Flamenco School & Company.
Her aim is to establish a curriculum where her students can receive a well-rounded training in flamenco dance. She teaches her students to acquire an understanding of form, rhythm, choreography, music awareness, palmas (hand clapping), castańuelas (castanets), improvisation, Bata de Cola (long train dress). Her mission is to train her students all the skills necessary to be able to perform, and for those interested, to eventually become semi-professional or professional dancers as well. La Tania also welcomes dancers that are in it for the joy of dancing for she believes dance is for all to partake in. Flamenco is also a festive and community based art, therefore it’s also an important part of the curriculum.
La Tania creates many performance opportunities for her students, both in group presentations as well as solo work showcases. In the spring, choreographies are taught from January to June (3 consecutive workshops) that culminate in a student performance. Students must take all three sessions to participate in the student show presentend in June. After the performance there is a summer break, with classes resuming in July and continuing through the fall and winter.
La Tania continues to expand with the hope of providing all the necessary tools and opportunities to those interested in learning about Flamenco. La Tania Baile Flamenco offers year-round classes in Oakland and San Francisco. Classes are open to Teens/Adults and we hope to expand and offer children's classes in the near future.
La Tania continues to perform and showcase her work at various times throughout the year. She is committed to presenting local dancers in different venues to further advance their careers and to promote and create the presence of this beautiful art form that is Flamenco.
